I have owned my own business for 20years while working for the post office. Yes, you can become a commercial expert by experience or teaming with someone as a mentor to teach you. Find what area you want to work them find a mentor to teach you. I love retail sales and service and have done very well for myself. I can tell you the mistakes and success I have achieved if you are interested.

There’s no licensure or regulation. Quite the opposite, many commercials are produced by total idiots who have no business making commercials, many of them working in advertising companies.

If you want to become a near-expert fast, buy and read these:

    Cash Copy (Jeffrey Lant)
The Wizard of Ads (Roy H. Wililams…. two sequels as well)
Confessions of an Advertising Man (David Ogilvy, but it’s kind of old; that means adapt the spirit of it; you may also want to get Ogilvy on Advertising)
    Scientific Advertising (Claude C. Hopkins)
The 100 Greatest Advertisements (of all time or something, i don’t know who wrote it, look it up on amazon it’s cheap)
The Ultimate Sales Letter (Dan Kennedy; be careful how you extrapolate the methodical accuracy of printed selling with the swift persuasion of media selling. Wizard of Ads can tell you more.)

I’m assuming by “commercial expert” that you actually mean a creative in the advertising field, which would either be a copywriter or an art director.

If either of those terms mean nothing to you, than there’s a lot you need to learn.

The basics: It is a career, one that you need to be well trained for in order to succeed in. And, no. You don’t need a license, but you do need an exceptional portfolio/book.

Anyhoo, that should answer your question. Now, if you want to know how to become a creative, that’s a whole other answer.

    Hope that helps!
