like it like asked:
Is it STILL true?
To what degree?
Are women not expected to do well at school also in America?

actually it’s completely the opposite now.
and women are doing far more better than men in school (or should I say girls and boys)

It’s still true, not to the degree it was 50 years ago, but it’s still like that. Women like to say that they’re independent, but they still expect their husband/boyfriend/guy on the street to do more finace-wise.
Women are expected to do well in school, while boys are expected to goof off. When it’s the other way around it is seen as unacceptable.

Thank heavens that is no longer true. Now women are no longer required to live their lives as servants to the men they are married to.

tonksloppy is right, in the schools, masculine traits are being turned into a pathology that if it can’t be controlled with a zero tolerance approach, then medication are used. Also, it seems everywhere you turn around, there’s some kind of girls/women empowerment session going on, and boys are not included or allowed to have boys empowerment. Feminism has has established itself as a **** movement that just does not **** men, but will go after boys. Remember, ***** them while their young so they’ll meek and insecure when they become young adults, which is working because of the ambivalence from males towards schools and the resultant drop in grades. But them boys should “man” up right feminists, or is that sexist attitude?

Women are now expected to have a career, provide for their families AND nurture/care for their children. Women are also pressured to be a perfect wife, to have the best marriage, best job, best house, best car, best vacations, best husband, best children, best body/figure, etc. If everything is not the “best” than it’s the woman’s fault for doing/not doing x, y and z. It’s what all the magazines, shows, what Oprah says… constantly telling women how they should live their lives, constantly reminding them of their troubles, constantly telling them what is wrong with them. Women have been told for years that they can “have it all”, and if they aren’t having it all, then they are just doing everything wrong or that they are inadequate. Women in America today are more competitive and have more on their plate than they ever have before. It leads to unhappiness, stress and depression for many women.

Now days, neither gender is expected to provide for their families any more than the other is. Although, it is generally more accepted for women to be a stay-at-home spouse/parent than it is for men.
Women and men are both expected to do well in school. A lot of teachers are more willing to help boys than girls in school, though. Also, it is more accepted for boys to goof off in school than girls.

unfortunately, I don’t think it is true any more. Women nowadays are supposed to do the lot, have careers, provide for their families, and do all the childcare, cooking, cleaning etc as well. Very exhausting.
