Are there any foreign affairs careers involving the military?

careers in america
Ryuteki Leigh asked:

I’m a junior in high school and I would like a career in foreign affairs and asian study, preferably solving conflicts between America and Asia. But, I would also like to work in accordance with the military, but not join. Is that any specific career that lets me do that? I stress that I do not want to join the military, just work with them.

Look into joining the foreign service and work for the State Department

I do know that the Marine Corps (and I assume all other services) do have Foreign Affairs Officer as a billet. I suggest getting a degree in either international relations, political science, sociology or economics. Then, look into OCS, ROTC or the Academy and become an officer.

Look into the Defense Intelligence Agency and the CIA, both support the military and do overseas intelligence work. Pretty competitive, you’ll have to study hard. But do that, and see if you can get an internship with either agency in college, that greatly increases your chances of one of them hiring you.
